Here is my repository of information on flying and testing experimental GA aircraft (plus some info on building and registering). There is much to learn if you wish to fly or teach in experimental airplanes and you take it seriously. If one wishes to do phase 1 flights of an experimental airplane (including first flights), be sure to check out my Test Pilot Center webpage

Experimental airplanes and RVSM
Did you know it is now possible for some experimental airplanes to achieve RVSM* authorization? It is. An Epic LT was the first airplane to achieve this, and several more LTs have since been authorized. For experimental aircraft, each individual airplane must have the proper equipment onboard, and be tested to meet the tolerances for airspeed, altitude, etc.
Just because your airplane can reach altitudes above FL290 does not mean it should! There are many issues with flying at these higher altitudes. On of the first issues is structures (can the windshield and other parts of the airplane safely handle these altitudes on a regular basis). Be sure to consult knowledgeable personnel concerning getting your airplane authorized for RVSM. There is only one company (that I know of) that has helped owners get RVSM authorization for their airplanes. That is:
AI Systems of Redmond, OR
I can also help with some basic consulting and training for RVSM.
RVSM = Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (Required for flight at Flight Levels FL290 and above)
